Lee Daniels to Direct Tobey Maguire and Zac Efron in 'The Paperboy'

We've heard about his involvement with an adaptation of Anna of the Tropics and a remake of Federico Fellini's Nights of Cabiria (which I'm vehemently opposed to), but now Precious director Lee Daniels has another project in his sights. Risky Biz reports the Oscar nominated director is set to helm a sexual thriller called The Paperboy. In addition, Matthew McConaughey, Tobey Maguire, Sofia Vergara and Zac Efron will all star in the adaptation of Pete Dexter's novel. Apparently Pedro Almodovar (Volver, Bad Education) had also been developing this project for more than a decade up until earlier this year.

Now Daniels is taking over the project and has been working on it through this year. The story follows a Miami Times reporter as he returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the imprisonment of a death row inmate. It's not clear what roles they'll be playing, producer Avi Lerner says, ...
